Many of our guests are familiar with my Mom’s first salon… Sylvia’s Hair Corral, established by my parents in 1983 and ran by my amazing, beautiful and talented mother Sylvia.
My original #GirlBoss managed to raise five high maintenance daughters, while maintaining a household, working behind the chair and running her salon. After a brief career in Graphic Design, I chose to leave the industry behind, diving into the salon with my mom full time. We rebranded giving the salon a makeover and changed the name to Altered Ego Salon.
We started a training program and updated to modern software. It was fun and exciting to watch the salon grow and eventually we decided to move to a larger spot. In early 2002 we found our new home and began the preparations for the new space. On July 4th, 2002 it was official, and I was ready to make my parents proud. I had so much to learn but knew it would be ok with her by my side.
The transition from worker to owner has not been an easy road, but Mom taught me more than I realized. When we suddenly lost her in 2010, I was devastated and knew I had to take it from there. I had help from my father, sisters and sought out consulting groups to help me with the reality of ownership and what that really meant.
With many failures and successes, I continued my soul search and know that this is what I was meant to do. I intend to do it with grace and honesty as my mother did. Many of the guests that still come in today have literally watched me grow up and evolve in my personal and professional life.
This growing small family business has taken on many transformations and anyone that has known us for a while knows that changes and growth around here are constant. We are excited to launch our newest branding and website! Thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you in the salon.
We have poured our heart and souls into our company and our team. We have learned so much on our journey and have made it our lifelong goal to share our experiences and knowledge with the next generation of stylists. We have adopted on training programs and management structures for our salon in order to maintain the great reputation that we here at Altered Ego have worked so hard to earn. This long-time local business offers so much more than hair, skin and nail services. We would like to personally thank you for choosing Altered Ego as your salon.
